The Festival Of The Arts

Today for the festival of arts, We have done our practices / warm up to I got this feeling. We then moved to the songs we practiced Circle Of life, I just can't wait to be king and Hakuna Matata .Then we moved on to our Script we did a run thought so we knew what characters we were being and what we had to say. For the Performance I would like to be a Zebra or a Gazelle.

Uru Manuka

Today we had Mr Maddren, For our first lesson of Term 4 We looked at the uru Manuka Logo Competition. We had 1 period To come up with a plan And if we had enough time we could even start the real thing. I worked with my Friend Summer. I had  few Ideas Of what I wanted to do.
The flower has 7 petals one for each of the schools. .

Limerick Poem

We Have been Learning How to create A Limerick Poem. First We had to do a Limerick Poem About Nature, The Next Day we got to do another Limerick Poem But of our Own Theme. My Theme That I picked Was About Cheerleading since I LOVE Cheerleading, And Know a lot About it. This Is what I created Enjoy My Google slide on my Limerick Poem that I made :) 

Water Experience

Aim: To Try Collect Water From Trees 

Equipment :

Plastic Bag

String 

Method : 

step 1  -  Cut A piece of String As  Long as you think would go around the tree. 

Step 2- Put the plastic Bag Over A branch Of the Tree you have chose 

Step 3 - Tie The plastic bag to the branch with the String 

Step 4 - Leave Overnight 

Step 5 - The Next day cheek on it

Step 6 - There should be Water from Condensation 

Step 7 - YOU HAVE WATER !!!

So now I have cheeked on it after 1 week her is photos and at the end it a paragraph of what I though of the experience :) Hope you enjoy 

So it tasted Like water It was not bad but not good it tasted like minty and water mixed with it then you take the mint out. I think that if we had more branches of the tree it would make more water. We had 15 ML of water and it would not be enough to survive of it. :) Hope you Enjoyed 

Gymnastics Day 4

Gymnastics Day 4 

I want to try and achieve Front Walkover. So I got the handstand bridge but whenever I tried to stand up My back would Hit to the floor And that would happen because my feet would slip. I learnt how to do a backbend Well Without My hands hurting and me failing. I learnt how to do Kick my leg up on the beam without falling over.  When i did the Back Walkover  I had a teacher aid Gabby and a Best friend Lauren Spotting me to help me stand up.

Gymnastics Day 3

Beam ... We started on beam for 11 Minutes we started on a red line on the floor to be sure that we're ready to move up then we got to the high beam I could do a Handstand And A Cart Wheel Although I dont like doing then and i need more practice on the lower beam because I hurt myself while on Beam.

Aim : We are trying to plant some Vegetables.

You Will Need ... 

Egg Carton with 6 or 9 holes 

Potting Mix 

Seeds of your Choice 

Water 

Method :

Step 1 -  Get A Egg Carton it can be one with 6 holes or 9 holes.
Step 2 - Full it to more than halfway With Potting Mix.  
Step 3 - Poke a hole in the middle with your finger.
Step 4 - In the hole,  put 1 Seed of your choice Into the hole 
Step 5 - Cover The hole With the seed in it with more Potting Mix. 
Step 6 - Water your plant With a decent amount of water per Hole. 
Step 7- Wait for it to sprout, It may take up to 2 weeks.
Step 8 - Remember not to much water but not too little water or it won't Grow. 
Step 9 - Make sure to give it enough Air, Water And sunlight to grow nicely.

Gymnastics

In PE we are starting a Gymnastics unit, From Past Experience Love Gymnastics. I did Gymnastic at home.

Wow ! It was Awesome we gt to use the beam, We started With A line on the floor and the more advanced we got the more we got to move up the height of the beam. We Also did Floor and learnt a Bear Roll And a ford roll. There was one challenge ...  Walking across the Beam. I Learnt  A bear roll Before coming to this I had no Idea What It was.

Today we Got to do 

Hauora In Science

Aim:  I want to find out how far my germs spread when I sneeze. 

Equipment :
Food colouring ( Blue, Red, Purple, Pink, yellow, Green ) 
butcher paper 
Plastic cups 
Tissues
Water 
Tape 

Method : 
1 -  Lay the paper out in a straight line as far as 5 meters. 
2 - Get Plastic cup and full it with as much as water as 100 ml.
3-  Then put as much as 10 drops of food colouring in the cup of water. 
4 - Then put some coloured water in your mouth ( DO NOT SWALLOW ).
5-  Then spit SOME of the water ( NOT ALL OF IT ).
6- Then take a tissue and roll a small corner, then stick up your nose till you sneeze. 
7- If you don't sneeze then pretend to sneeze, spitting the water out. 
8- When sneezing remember to look ahead of you. 
9- Measure how far you sneeze, Mark your name where you sneeze.

I  Found out that spit can travel as far as 3 meters. Meaning That you can spread a cold if you do not cover your mouth with A piece of Tissue.

How To Be Safe In Science

Planning 
Aim: I want to find out how to be safe in science.

Equipment : 
- Bucket 
- Detergent
- Water 
- Tube
- Gas
- Safety glasses 
- Lighter 

Method : 
1-  Get a bucket. 
2 - Put in a good squirt of detergent. 
3 - Fill half of the bucket with cold water. 
4 - Take your loose clothing of, pull yours sleeves up, If you got long hair tie it up. 
5 -  Connect a tube up to the gas tap and put the other end into the water. 
6 -  Turn on the gas and make some BUBBLES. 
7 - Put your safety glasses on. 
8 - Wet your hands and wrists up to your elbows 
9 - Get a scoop of  bubbles.
10- Hold the bubbles away from your face.
11 - Using a lighter, Light the bottom of the bubbles. 
12 -  Slowly open your hands.

I didn't do it but i got my friend on video. It make some sort of reaction and the fire went slowly. The fire started small and got bigger by the minute. It had smoke coming out of it after it had stopped. It smelt like burning gas and burning hair.,  and It looked yellow and orange. Here Is the video of my friend Lauren lighting her hands on fire.

Why Did we tie our hair up ?

We tied our hair up so it did not catch on fire. If we had our hair out it would burn of and

would take 1 or 2 years to grow back on our head. 

why did we wet our hands ?

We wet our hand because when you mix water and fire together water will win. It made a layer of protection so we would not get scarred or burnt.

Why did we take our loose clothes of ?

If we did not take our loose clothing of it would burn all over us and we would be burned or scarred for life. 

Why were we scared ?

we had adrenalin rushing through our body. Now What Is Adrenalin ? 

Orana Park

Last Week on Monday the year 7s & 8s went to Orana Park to learn about how most of our animals are endangered. On Friday we had to make thank you letter for orana park and for the warehouse. We were put into groups I was with my friend Natalia & Kyra. We had 2 lunch breaks. Here are some photos of what animals we saw. 

Here is the Letter I wrote... 

Dear Orana Wildlife park

I really want to thank you for an amazing day. You have taken your time to take Hornby High school year 7 & 8 students for a tour around Orana Park and explaining why these animals are endangered.  

I Enjoyed it I would Love to come back.  As this was my first time coming to Orana park I don't have much to compare it to other trips But I can sure say this was an amazing lifetime experience. One Of my favorite animals that I saw was the Cheetahs, As they are cute and there Coats are Amazing.

I learned that zebras strips are not all the same which means that they are one of a kind, I mean how amazing is that. I also learnt That many animals are endangered which means WE NEED TO SAVE THEM

( stop the litter ). My Favorite part was when the little gibeon was being so noisy.

Equipment In Science

1 - Beaker,  A Beaker Is used for holding liquid.

2 -  Test Tube Tongs, It is used to pick up test tubes that are dangerous to touch.

3 - Small Test Tube - To Handle Small Amounts Of Chemicals.

















4 - Large Test Tube - To Handle Large Amounts Of Chemicals.

5 - Erlenmeyer Flask - Erlenmeyer Flask is for mixing different liquids.

Bisness And Enterprise

So today We worked on our posters we have make four of them, They Say "The Sweet Shop ". It also says all of the types of cookies and brownies were making ( Afghans, Chocolate chip, Yoyo's And Hokey Pokey. For the brownies it says Plan Brownies And Brownie With Raspberry sauce.  And Last but not least it says the price - 1 cookie equals 50c, One Of each equals $1.50, Plan brownie is $2 And A Brownie with raspberry sauce is $2.50. As an extra we put on buy 3 Get one free!
